**CONGREGATIONS FOCUS ON MINISTRY TO WOMEN

Women all over the country are ministering to other women, both
inside and outside their churches, in new and unique ways, reaching
those who are single, divorced, widowed or college-aged.

At Trinity Church in Cedar Hill, Texas, around 1,000 women typically
attend Girlfriend Nights, according to Becky Hennessy, women's
director at the church. Half who attend don't attend services there.

The church also has specific outreaches to women called Esther
Enterprises, which ministers to single moms and widows, plus
Captured, for women in their 20s. Various small groups also meet
around similar interests such as book clubs, exercise, scrapbooking
and healthy eating.

Life Center in Tacoma, Washington, is another church with creative
ministry to single moms. Tiffany Ziesemer, director of Evangelism
and Influence Ministries at Life Center, notes the church has a
"single moms makeover" every Valentine's Day that features free
facials by a local salon academy, hair styling by beauticians and a
stress management seminar.

Both Life Center and Trinity Church offer various programs that
minister to women outside of the church. Life Center provides an
outreach for mothers of preschoolers (MOPS), for women who work in
the sex industry and for women who have had or are considering
abortion.

In the past three years, Trinity Church has sent women on missions
teams to Scotland, Belize and Vietnam. The women also prepare
monthly meals for the Ronald McDonald House and for Hillcrest House,
a home for AIDS patients.

**CBC LAUNCHES NEW DEGREE PROGRAM

Central Bible College's Missions and Evangelism Division has added a
new BA and AA major and minor to its curriculum. The opportunities
in evangelism and discipleship will be available to students as part
of the new College of Evangelism (COE).

"The new degree program opens up a wider array of electives for
special concentrations of evangelism to include: youth, missions,
urban ministries, church planting, college and itinerant ministries,
just to name a few," says Marshall Windsor, evangelist in residence
at CBC. "This is not just for itinerant ministries but this
initiative seeks to better equip all vocational avenues of ministry
with evangelism and discipleship training."

Windsor says the shorter hour requirement for the program (120 BA,
60 AA) will allow students to strategically gain quality academic
achievement within a reasonable amount of time and financial
investment.

"COE is the practical side of ministry for CBC students and seeks to
provide momentum for a new generation," he says. "We are still
working through details, but the COE is mainly student run and seeks
to provide mentoring opportunities to students in the area of
evangelism and discipleship as well as connect students with
churches and church leadership; allowing hands-on experience
opportunities."

Providing leadership and mentoring along with other experience
opportunities that will effectively equip students for evangelism
within their local contexts is one of Windsor's personal goals for
the program.
