The Truth Shall Make You Free

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. [John 8:32]

[Jesus said,] ``I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.'' (John 8:34) Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? (Romans 6:16) When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. (Romans 6:20)

He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. (1 John 3:8-9)

No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. (1 John 3:6) For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace. (Romans 6:14)

We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him. (1 John 5:18)

This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother. (1 John 3:10)

[Jesus said,] ``You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.'' (John 8:44)

``You will not surely die,'' the serpent said to the woman. (Genesis 3:4)
For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment; (2 Peter 2:4)
And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home--these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day. (Jude 6)
[Jesus said,] ``Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.'' (John 8:35-36) And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness (Romans 6:18) But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. (Romans 6:22)
for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. (1 Peter 1:9)
