All female ministers, pastors' wives and women preparing for ministry are welcome to attend the conference for a time of honest dialogue about issues, anointed ministry and leadership training for all ages. Registration begins Thursday, April 1 and runs through September 15 with a cost of $80 (special rate of $35 for college and graduate students). The Network is encouraging women to share a hotel room with a friend if needed to make their participation in this life-changing event more affordable. Groups of 10 or more will receive one complimentary registration. The first 50 women to register will receive a $5 Starbucks gift card! Dr. Beth Grant, Network chairperson, believes, "The key to Conversations '10 will be the dynamic anointed interchange at round tables as women honestly share their hearts and wisdom. They will learn together about how to better fulfill God's call upon their lives in a real world with complex challenges and amazing opportunities." One round table session will include Judy Rachels and Sheri Benvenuti, sharing from their ministry journeys on how they have learned to "keep the laugh in life." As in the other three round table sessions, dialogue led by facilitators will follow the presentations as participants distill "take-away" principles they can apply to their own lives. Strategic training sessions will convene in the afternoons of the Dallas conference. Jeanie Turner, an ordained minister from Ft. Myers, Florida, will lead a workshop on pioneering new ministries. Turner leads One Way Out, a ministry reaching women trapped in sexual exploitative businesses and other controlling lifestyles. Other exciting training opportunities include Growing in Leadership, The Pastor's Wife, Single in Ministry, When the Pastor is a Woman, Creative Missional Arts and Raising Healthy Kids in Ministry, among many others. The opening evening of Conversations '10, "Join Us at the Table", will celebrate the rich diversity of generations and callings of AG women ministers in 2010. The second evening will feature the ministry of Chi Alpha missionary Crystal Martin, a dynamic young leader who has pioneered university ministries with her husband in restricted Central Eurasian countries. Loida Espinoza, a respected leader of the Gulf Latin American District Women's Ministries who pastors alongside her husband in Crystal, Texas, will bring a powerful closing message the final evening. Grant says, "I know of no other gathering where we can purposefully interact with fellow AG women ministers from all over the country, learn from one another in round table dialogues, grow our skills as leaders, and fervently seek God for a fresh anointing. If God has called us to serve Him in ministry with strength and excellence whatever our age and calling, Conversations '10 is definitely the place to be!" The report, "Women in Peril," revealed that incidences of violence against women on ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC shows rose 120 percent between 2004 and 2009. Overall violence on the same networks during the span increased only 2 percent. The study reported that females were depicted as victims of violence 429 times in 2009, compared to 195 times five years earlier. The most frequent type of violence was beating (29 percent), followed by credible threats of violence (18 percent), shooting (11 percent), rape (8 percent), stabbing (6 percent) and torture (2 percent). In 19 percent of the depictions, the woman died. While CBS had the highest number of instances (118) on series such as "CSI," NBC had the highest violence against women increase in the period, 192 percent, on programs such as "Law & Order." The report also noted a 400 percent rise in violent portrayals against teenage girls. "In depicting violence against women with increasing frequency on television, or as a trivial, even humorous matter, the networks may be contributing to an atmosphere in which young people view aggression and violence against women as normative, even acceptable," the study concluded. "Those involved in the creation of television programming must be vigilant not to trivialize, sexualize or glamorize violence against women." "All domestic violence is unacceptable," states Gary Allen, national director of pastor care for the Assemblies of God. "Verbal, emotional, physical and sexual abuse is very serious and merits immediate attention. While such violence is frequently portrayed in television and movies as 'normal,' it certainly should not imply that it is 'acceptable.'" --Pentecostal Evangel ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For a regularly updated list of upcoming significant Assemblies of God days and events--many linked to informational, registration or ordering pages--see the following address: <http://ag.org/top/events/index.cfm>. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- AG-NEWS: The A/G News & Information Service, (c) 2010 A service of the Assemblies of God's Office of Public Relations.
